WESTFIELDS earned a home tie in the next phase and a welcome cash boost with a fine 4-2 win in the FA Cup extra preliminary round at Shawbury United.

After a mixed start to their league season, Westfields wasted no chance in stamping their personality on the match with Joel Edwards heading in a Will Loughman cross after just seven minutes.

A tremendous shot from Aidan Thomas extended the lead on 28 minutes and, although Jack Askey pulled a goal back shortly aftewards, the visitors went into the break with a two-goal advantage after Craig Jones fired home a headed pass from Richard Kear.Matt Barland fired home from 10 yards to cut the deficit back to a single goal and only a fine save from the returning Jon Pugh prevented an equaliser.

But, 20 minutes from the end, Dene Whittall-Williams headed an Anthony Robbins corner across goal for Kear to apply the final touch and put the result beyond doubt.

Westfields, who last Bob Aldrich and Scott Jackson through injury, will now entertain Romulus on August 25.
