Atherstone Town 3 Westfields 1 WESTFIELDS’ unbeaten Midland Alliance run came to an abrupt end after they failed to match the desire of Atherstone, who secured their first home win.
The table-toppers could not complain about the defeat - Sean Edwards’ men struggled to get their passing game together on a bumpy pitch.
The Adders took a sixth-minute lead when Nathan Rolph outstripped the visiting defence and beat Jamie Moore with a low drive.
Westfields hit back and their player of the match Craig Jones curled home the leveller with a left-foot shot from distance.
The visitors were struggling to get into their stride but should have taken the lead but Darren Andrews’ close-range header lacked power.
Moore twice foiled Tom Wheale at the beginning of the second period but the striker soon scored from the penalty spot after being fouled by Joel Edwards.
Daryl Addis fired wide with the goal at his mercy before Atherstone wrapped up the points with a third goal.
Westfields failed to deal with Rolph’s left-wing cross and substitute Ansel Gayle swept the ball past Moore.
