Westfields 3 Barwell 3.
WESTFIELDS came within two minutes of inflicting the first defeat of the season on the newly-crowned Aspire Midland Alliance champions.
Nigel Julien hit an 88th-minute leveller for Barwell whose last league defeat was in March 2009 against Westfields.
Westfields served up a good performance in the allpay.park sunshine to prove they can be a top-six side this season.
The Hereford club’s leading scorer Daryl Addis had a great chance to open the scoring in the 25th minute but he flashed a shot wide of the far post.
But Addis made no mistake in the 33rd when he drilled home a low shot after being set up by Jamie Addis and Richard Kear.
Barwell equalised within two minutes through Liam McDonald who cracked a 25-yard shot through a ruck of players.
Westfields goalkeeper Jamie Moore produced a superb save just before the break to keep out Kevin Charley’s 12-yard effort.
Barwell snatched the lead in the 50th minute when Paul Casey was caught in possession and Adam Cunnington fired the champions ahead.
Visiting stopper Castle then saved brilliantly from Jamie Edwards’ shot before Westfields levelled from a well-worked set-piece in the 68th minute.
Daniel Moon took a long throw which was flicked on by Tom Sparey to Kear who raced in to head home.
Westfields went ahead in the 72nd minute after Kear pounced on hesitancy in the Barwell defence to beat Castle with a low shot.
Barwell threw men forward in a bid to preserve their unbeaten league record and got their reward in the 88th minute.
Westfields’ defence failed to deal with a cross and Julien planted the ball home from close range.
