ROUTE TO THE CUP FINAL WESTFIELDS First round, Wellington (away) 4-2; Quarter-final, Lads Club (away) 7-0; Semi-final, Hinton (home) 4-0.
Ledbury TOWN First round, Kington Town (away) 6-0; Quarter-final, Pegasus Juniors (away) 6-4; Semi-final, Leominster Town (home) 2-1.
LEDBURY Town boss Ben Symons says his players will be going allout to avenge last season’s cup drubbing by Westfields.
Town face favourites Westfields in the HFA County Challenge Cup final at Edgar Street on Monday (11am kick off).
Symons was not present when Westfields crushed Ledbury’s cup hopes last term with an emphatic 4-0 victory at allpay.park.
“I can’t reflect on our 4-0 semi-final defeat last season because I was away that day,” said Symons.
“It was hurtful and some of the lads who took part in that game will remember it and will want to put it right.”
H i g h e r - g r a d e d Westfields have won the County Cup nine times - one fewer than recordholders Kington Town and Hinton.
In-form Westfields have lifted the trophy five times in the past eight years.
The city club lost on penalties to Wellington in last year’s final but gained revenge by knocking out the holders in this season’s firstround.
Westfields manager Sean Edwards said: “We have to bounce back after last season’s defeat in the final and win it for the sixth time since I've been manager which would be quite nice. We have done well since the turn of the century and got to the final about seven or eight times.
"You are only remembered if you are a winner and, although we have got to the final, we now have to beat Ledbury.
"The HFA County Challenge Cup is an important competition for the club.”
Ledbury Town last lifted the HFA County Challenge Cup in 2007 after Duncan Preedy scored in a 1-0 win over Wellington.
They had previously won the competition in 1979-80 and 1980-81.
Ledbury boss Symons said: “There is a lot of emphasis being put on this cup final and it’s a day for the club and a nice reward.
“A final is always nice for people to remember because it’s a special occasion.
“But my aim was to carry this side as high as possible through the league and a cup final was a part of that.
“It’s going to be tough because Westfields are a league above and we will be going into the game as the underdogs.
“Westfields are a good side and play at a higher level for a good reason.”
As well as becoming county champions, the winning team will earn the right to play Hereford United at home in a friendly next season.
