Sixth double of season as Fields see off Bridgnorth

3:40pm Friday 2nd April 2010

Westfields 3 Bridgnorth Town 1 WESTFIELDS overturned a half-time deficit to record a sixth league double and maintain fourth place in the Aspire Midland Alliance.

Phil Glover, Daryl Addis and Richard Kear scored the goals for Westfields who beat Bridgnorth 2-0 earlier in the campaign.

Bridgnorth finished the match with 10 men after striker Kevin Thompson was dismissed for a poor challenge on Westfields keeper Jamie Moore.

Glover had a powerful header brilliantly saved by Darren Walters before Bridgnorth fought back and broke the deadlock in the 40th minute.

A 30-yard free-kick from Steve Broome flew past Moore as he attempted to punch the ball under pressure from the Bridgnorth attack.

Westfields levelled in the 66th minute when Glover headed in a fine cross by Daryl Addis and they took the lead two minutes later.

A long throw-in by Dan Moon was flicked on by Glover and Daryl Addis raced in to head home from close range.

Bridgnorth’s task got harder after Moore saved bravely at the feet of Thompson who was then red carded for his challenge on the Westfields keeper.

Westfields started to open up 10-man Bridgnorth and Paul Casey and Jamie Addis both delivered dangerous crosses which the visitors’ defence dealt with.

The home side remained in control and put the game beyond doubt with their third goal in the 88th minute.

Jamie Addis linked with Glover and, when the ball was swept into the Bridgnorth penalty area, dangerman Kear shot home.

Ledbury Town 4 Wolverhampton Casuals 1 A brace from Lee Allen helped Ledbury Town to a fine home win over Wolverhampton Casuals in the Premier Division of the West Midlands League.

Scott Roberts and Tom Boyle also scored for Ledbury, while defender Anton Thompson gave a man-of-the-match display in Saturday’s win.
