WESTFIELDS were well beaten in their last pre-season friendly against Evesham United on Tuesday night.

The Hereford side made a number of changes for the game and found it tough against their Southern League Division One South & West opponents.

Ben Evans, who has joined Westfields from fellow Midland Football League Premier Division side Walsall Wood, had a chance to put Westfields in front, but his close-range effort was scrambled away.

Evesham made him pay for that missed opportunity when they opened the scoring thanks to a cracking goal from Nick Stanley.

A speculative cross from George Washbourne shortly before half-time then doubled the home side's advantage

Washbourne then increased the lead by scoring his second goal of the night after the break and, although Marcus Palmer had a chance to pull a goal back for Westfields, it was Evesham who went on to win the game comfortably.

Their fourth goal was scored from Lee Smith.

The defeat comes on the back of an excellent 4-1 win against Brislington at allpay.park.

Westfields led 1-0 at the back and hit three more in the second half.

Jamie Cuss led the way with a brace, with the other goals coming from Craig Jones and Brad Birch.

The match also saw the start of ticket sales for Westfields' eagerly-awaited derby clash against Hereford FC on August Bank Holiday Monday.

“There were just over 100 tickets sold on Saturday which is an encouraging start as the game is still four weeks away," said Westfields chief executive Andy Morris.

Supporters can purchase tickets from the clubhouse at allpay.park from 7pm to 9pm tonight.

Westfields open their league account at Loughborough University, a team that Sean Edwards' side had mixed results against last season.

Loughborough thrashed them 6-1 at home in March before a poor run of form saw them finish third from bottom after a 4-1 defeat at allpay.park.

But Loughborough earned a stay of execution in the league following Causeway United's withdrawal.

After Saturday's game, Westfields host Lye Town on Tuesday night, which is a 7.45pm kick off.
