WESTFIELDS manager Sean Edwards said he was proud of his players who 'gave everything' during their 2-1 FA Vase 3rd round defeat against Worksop Town.

The visitors, who had no fewer than eight players unavailable for the game, went behind to a neat finish from Connor Higginson just after the half-hour mark, but levelled moments later when Craig Jones converted a spot kick.

Worksop had edged in front when Connor Sellars and Connor Higginson broke forward on a counter attack, with Sellars picking out Higginson on the edge of the box for him to fire neatly into the bottom corner.

Moments later and Westfields' Carl Morgan was upended as he cut into the 18-yard box.

"I didn't see the penalty, but Carl Morgan said he was caught, that the player took his leg, so I'm pleased the linesman saw it and gave it," said Edwards.

As he had done in the previous round, former Hereford United player Craig Jones stepped up to coolly place his spot kick into the top corner.

As the half wore on, Westfields started to dominate and would have taken the lead through Jones on the stroke of half time had it not been for the home side's keeper.

"He's pulled off one of the best saves I've seen all season," said Edwards.

Just three minutes after the break and Westfields' hopes were dealt a blow, with right-back Michael Tambling receiving his marching orders for an apparent foul on the edge of the box.

"The referee's changed the game, he's really cost us the win," said Edwards who was more than upset with the official's decision.

"Michael's clearly won his header on the edge of the box," raged Edwards. "Even the assistant referee said he saw him win the ball."

The home side sealed the win 65 minutes in, making the most of the extra man with Tom Elliott finding space 18 yards out to blast the winner home.

Despite the loss, Edwards was proud of his side's performance.

"My lads have given everything, I'm gutted for them," said the Westfields manager. "I said to the referee at full time, I hope you realise you've cost my lads the chance of a trip to Wembley."
