Coventry Sphinx 2 Westfields 4

TWO weeks in the Mediterranean sun clearly had a positive impact on Westfields skipper Jamie Cuss who fired a hat-trick on his return to action in an impressive win in Coventry.

Cuss, returning to the side in place of the suspended Craig Jones, shot Fields ahead after 13 minutes following good work by Joel Edwards.

But Ashley Jackson headed an equaliser and then a speculative effort from Ashley Cain gave Sphinx the lead on the stroke of half-time.

Sam Gwynne worked hard to set up an equaliser for Cuss early in the second period but only a brilliant save from Matt Gwynne prevented Sphinx from regaining the lead.

Edwards headed off the line as Fields came under pressure but Zac Sirrell and Marcus Palmer combined to set up Cuss to fire home his hat-trick goal from eight yards out.

Palmer hit a post and then saw another effort turned on to the woodwork as Fields began to take control.

And the visitors gained the fourth goal their play deserved when Dan Polan rattled in a low drive after a pass from Tom Brock.

Westfields remain in fifth place in the Midland League Premier Division and entertain fourth-placed Coleshill Town on Saturday.
