Westfields 2 Kirby Muxloe 2

TWO goals from Jamie Cuss earned Westfields a Midland Alliance point as they shared the spoils with their Leicestershire visitors.

But the city side were left to regret a host of missed chances which would have given them a winning return to allpay.park after their FA Vase exit to Morpeth in Northumberland the previous week.

Westfields suffered an early shock when they won a corner but saw the visitors break away for Brett Darby to outpace the home defence and open the scoring.

Cuss swiftly had Fields back on level terms, racing in to slide home a cross from Carl Morgan in the 12th minute.

Three minutes later, Cuss was on target again, shooting home his second after being put through by Craig Jones.

Former Hereford United midfielder Jones came close to extending the lead with an acute-angled shot.

Aidan Thomas and Cuss were both foiled by the Kirby Muxloe keeper before Ryan Seal levelled the scores with a shot which squirmed under the body of Fields keeper Matt Gwynne.

Jones fired just wide and Cuss had a close-range chance scrambled clear as Fields began the second half strongly.

But it was not all one-way traffic as Luke Griffiths had to pull off an excellent tackle and Gwynne a instinctive reflex save to keep the scores level.

Even so, it was the home side who had the better opportunities to seal the win with Cuss heading just over and Jones having a shot brilliantly saved.

Westfields' home MFA League Cup third-round tie with Stourport Swifts which was postponed on Tuesday night will now be played tonight at allpay.park, kick-off 7.45pm.
