HEREFORDSHIRE’S first excursion into the FA Cup this season had a disastrous outcome.

There will be no potentially lucrative runs for either Westfields or Pegasus Juniors in the famous old competition after both suffered extra-preliminary round defeats.

Westfields will be espcially disappointed after holding a 2-0 half-time advantage in their home clash with Lye Town before going down 3-2. And Juniors would have hoped for better in their clash at Wolverhampton Casuals, whom they beat 4-0 in the West Midlands League Premier Division in the previous week.

Casuals turned the tables, however, with a 7-1 succes.

Everything looked good for Westfields after Josh Hunt prodded home in only the seventh minute.

And this was followed by a second strike by Alex O’Leary who scored just before the break from a cross by Carl Morgan.

Jamie Cuss missed a great chance to extend the lead after half-time but it was all downhill for Fields after that.

Twenty minutes from time, Calum Evitts headed home to reduce arrears and the striker levelled the scores when he side-footed home shortly afterwards.

Hunt had a great chance to restore Westfields lead but it was Evitts who had the last word, completing his hat-trick and earning his side an away tie at Coventry Sphinx in the next round.

Depleted Pegasus were behind after just 43 seconds at Wolverhampton when the unmarked Chris Henry scored at the far post.

Chris Russell added a second on the half-hour and King scored again from the penalty spot a minute later.

Hopes were revived when Ben Price chipped home but King completed his hat-trick to take the home side in 4-1 up at the interval.

Things got no better after the break and Tom Maydew (2) and Russell scored again to inflict Juniors’ heaviest ever FA Cup reverse.
