Heather St Johns 1 Westfields 1.

WESTFIELDS bounced back after conceding a first-minute goal to collect a useful away Midland Alliance point in Leicestershire.

But the city side might well believe that they should have returned with a win after missing two great chances following Joe Jackman’s 80th minute equaliser.

Jimmy Slack lobbed the ball over Matt Gwnne to give the home side the lead in their first attack.

But Westfields quickly hit back and Craig Jones rattled the bar as good approach work was not matched by the finishing.

Slack hit a post as the home side continued to pose a threat but, after Brad Birch had also hit the woodwork, Jackman got on the end of a left-wing cross to level the scores.

After that, Phil Glover and Anthony Robbins both failed with great chances to grab the win.

In midweek, in their first away game of the season, Westfields were sunk by a dominant first-half display by Tipton Town when they went down to a 3-2.

But, in a brave recovery, the city side almost grabbed a point in a late rally.

Dan Polan and Jamie Cuss had early chances before Ben Hadley tapped home a cross for Tipton on 20 minutes.

Poor defending saw the lead increased five minutes later and Hadley drilled home a second just before the interval after the Westfields defence were slow to clear.

Craig Jones pulled one back with a well-taken effort and Brad Birch struck in the 78th minute to set up a thrilling finish.

Jamie Cuss missed a good chance and Jones fired against the bar but the equaliser would not come.
