Westfields 5 Continental Star 0.

JOSH Hunt bagged a hat-trick and saw a penalty saved as Westfields got their Midland Alliance season away to an excellent start.

Fields completed their previous season with a 5-0 success and emulated that in a fine performance which will be a major confidence-booster for the new campaign.

The home side, despite plenty of possession and good chances, had to wait until the 42nd minute for their opening goal. Sam Gwynne sent Will Loughman away to deliver a cross which was volleyed home by Hunt to open the scoring.

Hunt scored again on 78 minutes following good work by Anthony Robbins and Carl Morgan to mark the beginning of a Fields goal spree.

Star were reduced to 10 men before Marcus Giglio benefited from good work by Morgan to score number three. Hunt then had a penalty saved but this just delayed the fourth by moments as Phil Glover volleyed home a Morgan cross to extend the lead.

Hunt completed his treble in the final minute when he seized on a defensive mistake to race forward and beat the keeper.

Westfields are taking part in the Sir Bobby Robson National Football Day on Saturday.

The club are staging a coaching session for youngsters involved in their under-8, 9 and 10 squads.

l A LAST-gasp goal from Jack Lewis enabled Pegasus Juniors to avoid defeat in their final pre-season match with a 2-2 draw at Lydney Town.

A spectacular over-head kick from the Pegasus man drew the scores level with the last kick of the match.

Earlier, Mark Lee had put the home side ahead in the 11th minute.

But, in the 52nd minute, Chris Mortlock, who had hit the bar in the first period, crossed for Kane Kahaki to level the scores.

Twenty minutes from time, former Westfields striker Richard Kear seemed to have won the game for Lydney but Lewis had the final say.

Jamie Welch’s goal for Ledbury Town was not enough to save them from a 2-1 defeat in their pre-season clash with Lye Town at New Street.
