Westfields 6 Alvechurch 1.

TWO goals from Craig Jones helped Westfields hammer Alvechurch and move up to fifth in the Midland Football Alliance table.

Sean Edwards’ men stormed into a 4-0 lead by half-time and always looked comfortable.

Eighteen-year-old midfielder Zac Sirrell was given a first home start for Westfields and he impressed alongside the more experienced ex- Hereford United duo of Jones and Sam Gwynne.

Fields swept into an early lead in the 10th minute when Jamie Cuss expertly volleyed home from a pin-point Richard Kear cross.

Three minutes later it was 2-0. Another quick move involving Kear and Jones led to Gwynne blasting home after Kear’s shot was blocked.

Alvechurch’s first attack did not arrive until the 18th minute when their skipper Scott Smith had a snap shot saved by Jamie Moore and moments later, Moore had to punch two corners from the visitors away from danger.

But any hope that Alvechurch would get back into the game soon evaporated when Kear slotted home and it was 4-0 by half-time as Jones got his first goal of the game.

Jones was celebrating again after the break when he fired home after being set up by Kear, before Alvechurch replied via a Smith header.

But Westfields had the final say thanks to Dene Whittal-Williams’ header from six yards.

Sean Edwards’ men host third-from-bottom Highgate United on Saturday.
