Westfields 1 Coleshill Town 2.

LACKLUSTRE Westfields were made to pay for some poor attempts on goal as two quick-fire goals from lowly Coleshill won them the game.

Sean Edwards’ team were without the suspended Joel Edwards and injured Phil Glover, Dene Whittal-Williams and Anthony Robbins for the Midland Alliance fixture, which proved key to Westfields failing to take any of their early openings.

Carl Morgan and Sam Gwynne both put in good crosses, but Richard Kear and Jamie Cuss failed to convert the chances.

But Kear made amends in the 17th minute when he slotted in from close range to open the scoring for Westfields.

Fields then almost grabbed a second goal when Craig Jones hit a superb right-foot shot which the Coleshill goalkeeper had to save at full-stretch.

But the away side made more of a game of it in the second-half and shocked Westfields with two quick goals in the 65th and 67th minutes.

First, Dan Carter fired in an exquisite free-kick from 25 yards out and then Jason Ramsey raced away and plant a low drive past the diving Matt Gwynne in the Westfields goal after Wayne McNeill lost possession in the centre.

Westfields tried desperately to get back into the game but the final pass was always lacking quality.

However, they felt hard done by referee Jim Whittington, who turned away two penalty shouts when both Cuss and Gwynne were sent sprawling to the ground.

Edwards sent on Rob Aldrich, Mark Davis and Aidan Thomas in a desperate bid to level, but the away team held on for the victory.

Meanwhile, Westfields Reserves hammered Pegasus Reserves 6-1 in the first round of the HFA Charity Bowl. Terry Green grabbed a hat-trick, while Zac Sirrell, Jarron McCaulay and Louis Ferneyhough also got on the scoresheet.
