FORMER Southampton academy and Wales under-20 goalkeeper Gareth Williams has joined Westfields.
Williams made an outstanding debut for Westfields Reserves in their 3-2 HFA Charity Bowl win over Sutton United last Saturday.
Sutton’s Jim Williams said his namesake was the best player he had seen in local football for the past 15 years.
“The lad was outstanding - had he played for us, then we would have won,” admitted the Sutton stalwart.
Williams, 23, joined Westfields on a non-contract basis last Thursday after the club lost first-choice goalkeeper Jon Pugh for six weeks with a broken thumb.
Williams, who represented Wales at under-16 and under-19 levels, has also played for Tiverton Town and Cwmbran Town.
Westfields boss John Layton said: “Gareth is a determined lad and his attitude seems to be superb. He is relishing the opportunity to put himself back in the shop window.”
