Westfields 3 Oadby Town 0.

A TWO-goal display from in-form Mark Davis fired Westfields to their first home win for five months in the Polymac Services Midland Alliance last Saturday.

Oadby missed a first-half penalty and had former Leicester City defender Tom Goodwin sent off for a second bookable offence in the 67th minute at allpay.park.

But Westfields thoroughly deserved their long-overdue home win after a dominant second-half display in which they scored three goals.

The victory gave Westfields their first home league success since a 1-0 win over Boldmere St Michael's on October 6.

Westfields also completed a league double following a 2-1 victory at the Leicester club in November.

Oadby should have taken the lead from the penalty spot in the 11th minute after Westfields goalkeeper Jon Pugh tripped Carl Adams inside the area.

Adams, himself, took the spot-kick but scuffed his effort horribly wide of Pugh's right-hand post.

Davis saw a 25-yard drive tipped wide by the diving Laurie Pearson in the 19th minute and Jamie Edwards cut inside from the left to hammer a shot over the bar from the edge of the box.

Davis was again in the action in the 35th minute, forcing a smart near-post save from Pearson after connecting well with Scott Jackson's deep free-kick into the box.

But Oadby had the clearest goal-scoring opportunity in the 39th minute when the dangerous Matt Moore picked out the unmarked David Fisher at the back post.

The former MFA Player of the Year should have tapped the ball into the empty net but he side-footed wide.

Westfields looked the brighter side after the interval and broke the deadlock with their first chance of the second half in the 56th minute.

Mark Hibbard slipped the ball through to Edwards who created space inside the penalty area and fired a shot which was parried by Pearson.

The ball broke to Davis who confidently knocked it into an empty net from inside the six-yard box.

Oadby's hopes of getting back into the match were dealt a major setback when Goodwin, who played in the Premiership with Leicester City, was dismissed after picking up his second booking for dissent.

Westfields continued to dominate and Jackson was a whisker away from doubling the home side's advantage with a near-post header from Matt Aubrey's cross in the 76th minute.

But the home side only had to wait a further 60 seconds before they scored a crucial second goal.

Davis hooked the ball goalwards from about 25 yards and, although the backpedalling Pearson managed to get his hands to the striker's dipping effort, he couldn't keep it out.

Aubrey, who followed up the striker's shot, hammered the ball into the net from about a yard, but Davis was credited with the goal.

Aubrey went close to extending Westfields' advantage in the 79th minute after cutting inside from the left and drilling a shot which was well saved by Pearson.

But Aubrey eventually got on the scoresheet in the 89th minute.

He ran on to Edwards' through-ball to calmly place his shot beyond Pearson.

Davis almost completed his hat-trick in stoppage-time.

Davis collected a neat pass from substitute Jamie Cuss but his effort was saved by the visiting goalkeeper.
