Westfields 1 Coventry Sphinx 1 WESTFIELDS picked up their first home point in the Polymac Services Midland Alliance since October 6 with this hard-fought draw at allpay.park.
The Hereford club failed to make the best of their good approach play against the hard working visitors.
Westfields opened the scoring in the sixth minute, Scott Jackson heading in a Jamie Edwards free-kick.
The home side then had a good chance to increase their lead but Paul Shepherd tipped over a 25-yard drive from Edwards.
The Coventry goalkeeper also produced an outstanding to deny Paul Price.
Coventry came back at Westfields and Adam Jones made a brilliant diving save to keep out a low shot from James Holmes.
Jones, who was deputising for the suspended Jon Pugh, then did well to save at the feet of Holmes.
Coventry continued to keep up the pressure and were gifted an equaliser on the stroke of half-time.
The home defence failed to deal with a right-wing corner and Holmes had the simple task of heading the ball in from six yards.
Both sides had chances to win the match in the second half.
Edwards, Chris Jefferson and Mark Davis all had opportunities to put Westfields in front.
But Mark Hibbard and John Hill made timely challenges at the other end.
Alex Hunt and Jamie Cuss also made important clearances in the dying minutes as Westfields ended their sequence of home defeats.
