WESTFIELDS went down 2-1 to Lydney Town in a pre-season friendly on Tuesday night.

Sean Edwards' team had gone into the half-time break 1-0 up thanks to a fine strike by Jamie Cuss and were unlucky not to increase their lead when Kane Kahaki and Darren Berry both had great chances to build up a commanding lead.

Those missed chances proved costly for Westfields as Lydney, who play in the Hellenic League Premier Division, hit back after the break.

The Gloucestershire side equalised with a head within minutes of the second half then late in the game, as Westfields introduced a number of younger players, snatched the winner when Andrew Delve in the Westfields' goal palmed a header onto the crossbar and the rebound was swept home.

The match came on the back of an excellent 2-0 win at Malvern Town last Friday night.

A confident passing display by 'Fields was topped off with two excellent goals from Craig Jones and James Febery.

Westfields started in a lively fashion when Tom Bendall, who scored twice in a 5-1 win at Broadwell United, broke free of the Malvern defence before seeing his speculative effort pushed against the bar.

Jones then found space before sending his weak effort straight at the Malvern goalkeeper before he put Westfields ahead thanks to a low-driven effort into the bottom corner.

Malvern had a great chance to equalise at the start of the second half when Delve flapped at the ball from a corner into the path of a Malvern striker.

But Luke Griffiths was on held to clear the ball off the line.

Bendall then flashed a half volley wide of the post before Delve saved a Malvern shot with his outstretched leg.

Westfields killed the game off when a diagonal ball into the box from Tom Boyle was chested down by Febery, who made now mistake with a low shot into the Malvern goal.

The Hereford side are next in action this Saturday when they play Southern League side Cinderford Town before hosting Slimbridge in the HFA Senior Invitation Cup final at allpay.park on Tuesday.
