WESTFIELDS are one step away from gracing Walsall's Banks's Stadium again after Marcus Palmer's goal saw off Stourport Swifts in the semi-finals of the Polymac Packaging Midland Premier Division League Cup on Tuesday night.

The allpay.park side lost to Loughborough University in the final two seasons ago and will be hoping top go one better this time around.

Ex-Hereford Unites striker Palmer scored the only goal of the game from 20 yards in the first half and Westfields had to defend stoutly to hold on to their lead.

Goalkeeper Harvey Rivers had to produce a flying finger-tip save to deny John Griffin from scoring an equaliser, while Joel Edwards twice made last-ditch tackles.

Westfields could have made the game save when Jamie Cuss was through on goal, but his shot sailed wide of the far post.

Sean Edwards' side will face either Rocester, Coleshill Town or Long Eaton United in the semi-final. The final is due to be played at Walsall's Bescot Stadium on Tuesday, May 5.

The win was a huge boost for Westfields after they were trounced 6-1 by Causeway United in the league last Saturday.

New goalkeeper Dan Tecza had to play in goal for Westfields due to Matt Gwynne being injured and Rivers serving a suspension.

But he had no chance with any of the goals and his defence gave him little protection.

Westfields' solitary goal came from Scott Jackson two minutes from time.
