Hereford United defender Ryan Green has been attacked with a bottle in a city centre pub.

The 29-year-old was struck on the head at the Litten Tree after United's home match with Lincoln City fell victim to the cold snap.

Green (pictured, inset) suffered a cut in Friday’s incident but has been training this week after missing United’s last two games with a leg injury.

He expects to be named in Hereford’s squad for the League 2 trip to struggling Torquay United on Boxing Day.

“I am OK,” said Green. “The dead leg which I first had at Barnet has cleared up and I only suffered a small cut after I was hit on the side of the head with a bottle.

“I was out with a few of the other players in the pub when the incident happened but I didn't let it spoil my night.”

Police arrested a man in connection with last Friday’s incident on the first floor landing near the toilet area at the Litten Tree at about 10.30pm.

The man has been released on bail and anyone who saw the incident is being urged to contact DC Pete Bradbury from Hereford CID on 0300 333 3000.

Green is now looking ahead to Hereford's festive programme which includes Aldershot’s visit to Edgar Street next Monday (December 28).

He is confident that the Bulls can break into the top-10 in League 2.

“We have been a bit sloppy defensively in the last three games.

“It was a bad result against Macclesfield but I am confident we are a top-10 team because we have the players capable of doing that.”

Danny Blanchett has returned to Peterborough following his 93-day emergency loan and Darren Dennehy has gone back to Cardiff City.

A new date has not yet been confirmed for Hereford’s postponed home match with Lincoln.
