WINGER Matt Done doesn’t think the League 1 big boys will relish making the trip to Hereford this season.

The former Wrexham star wants his Bulls’ team-mates to turn Edgar Street into a fortress.

Done knows what it’s like to taste defeat as a visiting player at Edgar Street.

The most traumatic night of Done’s professional career was in April when his then club Wrexham suffered a 2-0 defeat.

The loss condemned the Red Dragons to relegation from the Football League after an 87-year stay.

“I know at first hand that Hereford is a tough place to come as a visiting player,” said Done.

“There are a lot of big clubs in this division and I don’t think they will look forward to coming to Hereford. We have to use that to our advantage and make Edgar Street a fortress where we will be hard to beat.”

Shrewsbury-born Done spent 11 years at the Racecourse Ground with Wrexham before signing a two-year deal with Hereford in the summer.

The 20-year-old said: “Being at Wrexham is all I have ever known – I saw lots of players come and go in my time at the Racecourse. Coming to Hereford is a new start and a new challenge. I thought it would take some time to get used to be being at Hereford, but I have settled in very quickly.”

Done revealed that Hereford first tried to sign him in January.

“The club came in for me in January when I was not playing. But Wrexham told me that I was not going anywhere - so I got it out of my head. As a professional footballer I wanted to stay in the Football League. When Wrexham got relegated to the Blue Square Premier, I decided I wanted to remain in the Football League and play at the highest level I could. Hereford came in for me and I was pleased to sign.”

Done, who hails from Oswestry, believes that Hereford will have a good first season in League 1 despite pundits tipping them to struggle.

“With the players at the club, I think we should have a good season. Our first aim, though, must be to stay in the division. I am looking forward to playing at Leeds and against Leicester City at the Walkers Stadium.”
