GARY Hooper's goal two minutes before the interval gave Hereford a half-time lead in their important battle with Wrexham at Edgar Street.
There were chances at both ends inside the first five minutes.
Richard Rose cracked a shot wide before a surging 40-yard run by Matt Done ended with a shot which brought an excellent stop from Brown.
But the best opening fell to Hereford after four minutes.
Ben Smith’s flick was played by Gary Hooper into the path of Theo Robinson who raced clear of the defence only to slice his shot horribly wide of the target.
Play became scrappy for a while but still flashed from end to end with both sides forcing a pair of corners none of which came to anything.
Done continued to look lively for Wrexham and forced another save from Brown on 25 minutes.
But Hereford were the more potent attacking force although, time and again, promising build-up play was not matched by the final delivery into the box.
Brown, though, had to come to Hereford’s rescue with another brilliant stop on 35 minutes, pushing the ball away for a corner from a snap shot by Neil Roberts.
The Bulls, however, went back down the other end to take the lead two minutes before the interval.
A fine pass out of defence by Sammy Igoe was backheeled neatly by Robinson to Hooper who advanced before netting with an angled drive into the corner of the net.
