Dagenham 0 Hereford United 1.
HARRY Pell was delighted to have marked his return to the Bulls line-up with a winning performance.
The Bulls stayed clear of the danger zone with an important victory which completed their first double of the season.
“We really needed that win today,” said the former Charlton midfielder.
“It’s a massive win for us with us both being down there. We knew it was a six- pointer so the main thing was to see the game out.
“They were three vital points. We knew it was going to be tough, we know the way that Dagenham play and we came here and got the job done.
“While we were not exactly flying today, we came here and got the job done and that was our main objective.
“Now we need to start turning our home form around and giving the fans what they want to see.
“Hopefully we can get a little run going now and climb the table.
“It would be nice to win in style but we defended well and we are over the moon with the win.”
Hereford endured one or two anxious moments in the early stages before grabbing the decisive goal five minutes before the interval.
United gained their third corner of the afternoon and Joe Colbeck’s perfect cross was met by the flying Yoann Arquin who powered home his fifth goal of the season from inside the six-yard box.
“Yoann is a great player,” said Pell. “He is progressing week-in and week-out and I am delighted that he got his goal.”
After the break, Rob Purdie had a shot kicked off the line while substitute Tom Barkhuizen, somewhat surprisingly left out of the starting line-up, sent a shot skidding narrowly wide of an upright in the final 10 minutes.
Pell, who had been omitted from the side for the last two games, could not conceal his delight at being back in the team and vowed to take on board the lessons from his period on the sidelines.
“I am happy to be back in the side and delighted with the win today,” he said.
“Now it is on to the next week.
“When I am standing here at 29 or 30, I still do not believe that I will be the finished article even then.
“I want to progress and be the best that I can possibly be.
“If Gary Peters and Jamie Pitman think that I need to work on something then I am happy to take it on the chin and to try to progress in that area.”
