Transfer deadline day at Edgar Street

WITH clubs gearing up for the last few hours of transfer deadline day action, United fans' eyes will be turning to Edgar Street to see if there are any comings and goings.

But the bad news appears to be that the bulk, if not all, of United's dealings have been completed earlier in the month.

Exits have been made by Janos Kovacs, who has completed a permanent move to Luton Town; Sean Canham, who has gone out on loan to Bath City for the remainder of the season; James McQuilkin, who is at Kidderminster Harriers for a month and Steve Leslie, who returned to Shrewsbury Town at the end of his loan period before completing a permanent move to Wrexham.

Arriving through the in-door have been Will Evans, firming up a permanent deal after a loan spell from Swindon; Simon Clist, whose loan from Oxford has also been made permanent and Nathan Elder, who has signed from Hayes and Yeading after a loan spell.

Ben Purkiss is the only completely new name to arrive after signing from Oxford.

But there has also been a loan extension for Tom Barkhuizen, who will stay at Edgar Street until the end of the season, as will Richard Peniket, on loan from Premier League Fulham.

Youngsters Dan Hanford and Sam Clucas have signed contracts with the club until the end of next season.

And Michael Townsend's stay at Edgar Street will also continue to the end of next season.

While United would, no doubt, like to pep up their goal-power by signing a striker, most other clubs are in a similar position.

And, with United's budgetary constraints, it seems as if Bulls fans will have to make do with the current strike-force.

We'll keep you updated with any developments throughout the day.
