The Luke Graham Blog: Friday night shifts but no more lifts
7:33pm Friday 10th August 2012 in Blue Square Bet Conference Premier - Table
Friday night’s game against Bristol city was the perfect end to an encouraging preseason. We were sloppy in possession at the start of the game, yet got better and found a way to win. To stay unbeaten and keep five clean sheets is a credit to us. No matter what the opposition has been, we have been professional as a group and worked hard throughout. This counts for nothing now though and we have to take this into the season.
We have been in every day this week and it’s been a mixture of fun games and preparation for the Macclesfield game. Tuesday was a whole day of fun and it was the ‘Gaffers team’ vs. ‘Ports team’. It started with a ‘keepie uppie’ game, followed by ‘head tennis’ and finished with a ‘match’ between the teams. We used a tiny ball and it was like a hot potato. The gaffer takes a loose touch and smash!! Gary Peters seizes his opportunity like a naughty school boy for a meaty tackle! The boys are laughing their heads off! The competitive edge never leaves you. Though we haven’t seen Gary since, we wonder whether the Headmaster sent him home?!
The fines kitty is building up nicely, at this rate we will all be able to go to the Wetherspoons for Christmas dinner and a glass of Bucks Fizz! I’m like a sheriff in town and any little thing gets back to me! The length that people go to to get other people fined is hilarious. Leaving an item behind can cost you £5 and it’s amazing how things go missing! There’s still a pair of trainers that have been unclaimed and no one will pay a fine for. Saying that, if you see them, you can understand why! Rascals!
Another pairing on the move into new accommodation have been Ryan Bowman and Marley Watkins this week. Marley has already been accused of using Ryan’s butter, which he has firmly denied! Then there was the order of the ping pong table from Argos, which Marley insisted was 9 inches long! After waiting all day and night it’s fair to say it wasn’t coming. I’m sure they will figure out how to share things and order out of a catalogue soon, I’ll keep you updated! One thing I will tell you is they aren’t in mine, bitts and Cc’s car school to training anymore!! Remember how I told you how some of us really look after trialists when they come to the club, like giving them lifts everywhere. Well now they have signed, Marley has a Ford Focus that never makes it out of Swansea for a start. Also Ryan’s new investment, a new White Fiesta Edge, seems to be a front passenger ride only for him and Marley (he doesn’t want to get it dirty!). It gets worse… It’s Bitts turn to drive, sporting his bargain Ford Ka, so CC and I go to get in. There’s Marley and Ryan behind us, too. Can they not see the blow up bed taking up most of the room in the back, as if the car isn’t small enough as it is? Marley still tries to get in before we drag him out by the scruff of the neck! Did they get in Ryan’s Fiesta Edge? Of course not, they got in with somebody else! They’re out! Usain Bolt has been the name on everyone’s lips this week, as the Olympics grip us. It must be demoralising training for four years and sprinting your heart out, only to see Mr Bolt slowing down at the line. He’s openly admitted he doesn’t train harder than some of his competitors too! That’s what you call natural born talent! While we Hereford united players will be working our hardest Friday night against Macclesfield Town, hoping to be the names on your lips come 9.20pm!!
