9:38pm

9:37pm

9:36pm

9:35pm

Assistant manager Steve Jenkins said: "it was a roller-coaster of emotions and a fantastic day for the club. We always believed we would do it and, hopefully, the club can use this momentum and move on.

"It was mayhem in the dressing room after the match. The boys are delighted and they have been brilliantly.

"Rankine came up trumps in the 88th minute."

9:32pm

Director Dave Preedy said: "I am so pleased for the players and Peter Beadle. I have never cried at a match before but I was in bits and it was a fantastic result. It was an emotional roller-coaster. The outcome came right - the Gods smiled on us.

"If that is the last thing that Luke Graham does for the club, he has done that."

9:29pm

Skipper Luke Graham said: "We have had so many knock backs this year - I have never known a season like it.

"Our fighting spirit came through and we deserved it.

"I have never cried in my lifetime but I could not help it and I burst into tears.

"Trying to keep everyone together this season has been the toughest thing I have ever done.

"We have defied the odds. The fans have been brilliant all along and we have done it together as a team.

"I think this is the best achievement of my career."

9:23pm

Striker Michael Rankine said: "We could not have written a better script than that and the fans deserved it. It is amazing - it is the best feeling in the world."

9:19pm

Manager Pete Beadle said:"It was about us making sure we did our job and it was back to back wins to finish the season.

"I was pleased we played well for long periods and won our game.

"It has been a tough couple of week, especially the day after we lost against Tamworth but it has all been worth it."

9:15pm

Sam Smith said: "It is the best feeling I have ever had in football by far.

"It has been brilliant - I can't believe it.

"I have had an indifferent relationship with the crowd, but I was delighted to score.

"It has been brilliant for everyone."

9:11pm

Hereford's team bus is on its way to Edgar Street.

Luke Graham and several players, who drove to Aldershot by car, are on their way to Hereford to celebrate tonight.

9:09pm

Sam Smith was delighted at the finish and, on hearing Hereford had stayed up, jumped into the celebrating fans.

Inspirational captain Luke Graham burst into tears while the fans and players celebrated wildly.

Manager Pete Beadle was probably the calmest man on the pitch and later celebrated with a fat cigar.

9:06pm

This was a remarkable afternoon for Hereford United, who defied the odds to stay in the Conference Premier.

Michael Rankine stabbed in a cross from substitute Dan Walker in the 88th minute to put Hereford 2-1.

And, almost immediately, Salisbury scored at Chester to level that match at 2-2.

With Chester failing to win, Hereford's victory means they stay up and Chester are relegated.

7:52pm

7:51pm

7:51pm

7:50pm

There were emotional scenes on the pitch as Hereford's players celebrated with the fans.

Luke Graham burst into tears and Sam Smith jumped into the crowd when he heard that Salisbury had grabbed a late leveller at Chester.

7:23pm

The final whistle goes at the Receation Ground.

The final whistle has now gone at Chester.

HEREFORD UNITED HAVE DONE IT - THEY HAVE STAYED UP.

Incredible late drama in both matches.

Unbelievable scenes between Hereford's players and fans.

I think Sam Smith has just jumped into the crowd.

It's getting emotional now.

The fans are going wild with joy - what a great sight.

7:19pm

Hereford have just retaken the lead with two minutes left.

RANKINE has done it.

The internet connection has just gone down.

Amazingly, we are hearing that Salisbury have levelled at Chester.

Can you believe it?

What a story!

Hereford's fans are going wild.

Incredible drama.

If this stays the same, Hereford will avoid relegation on goal difference.

7:12pm

Just six minutes remain at the Recreation Ground and Hereford have to push players forward.

Sub: Bowen off, Walker on, 86 mins.

7:10pm

The crowd today is 3,593 with 772 from Hereford.

Hereford are just eight minutes from relegation.

Sub for Aldershot - Bubb on, Mekki off, 83 mins.

7:08pm

Aldershot have also made a substitution and Barker comes off and is replaced by Roberts - 78 mins.

7:07pm

Beadle has one last throw of the dice.

Double substitution for United.

79 - Brown on for Edge

Williams comes on for Smith.

7:05pm

Oyeleke has hit a shot into the net from about 20 yards and it bounced into the net off the post.

That could be curtains for United.

7:02pm

Terrible news for Hereford.

Aldershot have just scored in the 75th minute.

6:58pm

Rankine has put himself about this evening against his former club.

6:58pm

If Hereford are relegated this afternoon, the focus will be on United's future.

Pete Beadle and Steve Jenkins cannot be blamed should Hereford suffer relegation in the next 20 minutes.

6:56pm

I think most of us are praying that Salisbury can get a second equaliser at Chester.

21 minutes remain and the Conference Premier dream is slipping away from the Bulls.

6:55pm

6:54pm

Hereford are being put under the cosh at the moment.

6:54pm

6:54pm

It is starting to feel like the afternoon when Hereford defeated Torquay but were relegated from the Football League when Barnet beat Burton.

6:52pm

Aldershot go close again.

Mekki's goal-bound shot is deflected away for a corner.

Can Hereford hang on here and hope Salisbury snatched a leveller at Chester?

6:51pm

Phillips rises at the back post but directs his header narrowly wide - 64 minutes gone.

6:50pm

Lloyd Weston just gets his finger tips to push a looping effort over the bar.

6:49pm

Brett Williams puts the ball in the back of the Hereford net but the effort is ruled out for offside.

6:48pm

Oh dear - that wasn't the news we wanted from the Chester match.

30 minutes remain at the Recreation Ground and Hereford have a job to do still.

6:46pm

Terrible news for Hereford!

Chester have regained the lead at home to Salisbury.

Hereford, as it stands, are relegated.

6:45pm

But Morris got a hand to the ball, pushed Bowen wide who fired over from close range.

6:44pm

That should have been 2-0 to Hereford.

Bowen was clean through with the goalkeeper and tried to round him.

6:41pm

I was clapping my hands when that ball was headed home by Graham.

From where I am sat, it looked like a really good header from Graham.

6:39pm

That was a lovely free kick from Artus and Graham's header flashed into the net - but the goal will not stand.

6:38pm

Hereford think it's 2-0 but Luke Graham's header has been flagged offside.

6:37pm

Rob Purdie wins a free kick on the right - it is an attacking area.

6:36pm

6:35pm

6:35pm

It has been a quiet opening to the second period.

6:34pm

My co-reporter Paul Rogers is in the away end today, tweeting away for us on @htnewsroom.

6:32pm

We are off in the second half.

6:31pm

Hereford's players are back out for the second half.

6:28pm

6:28pm

6:23pm

6:20pm

There was a loud cheer from Hereford's fans when the scoreline at Chester was read out by the pa announcer.

6:18pm

Yellow card for Phillips for a foul on Rankine.

The half time whistle goes.

As it stands, Hereford are staying up.

The Hereford fans are in fantastic voice this afternoon.

Do we dare to dream?

6:15pm

Chris Bulls concedes a free kick in a dangerous position.

6:13pm

6:13pm

It is five minutes to half time and Hereford lead 1-0.

It has gone scrappy in the last few minutes but Hereford have scored the all-important goal.

Jamie Edge has done well for the Bulls in central midfield.

6:09pm

Great news at Chester for Hereford's fans.

Salisbury have now in fact levelled.

6:09pm

6:06pm

Hereford lead 1-0 and deserve to be ahead.

The Hereford fans were cheering and jumping around a few minutes ago thinking that Salisbury had levelled at Chester.

6:03pm

Hereford's fans think Salisbury have scored at Chester but we don't think that's the case.

Booking for Shots - Oyeleke has just gone into the book for a foul on Rankine - 31 mins.

6:01pm

Luke Graham's header was blocked on the line for a defender and Sam Smith bundled the ball in.

The players celebrated the goal with the away fans.

5:59pm

5:58pm

GOAL for Hereford.

Sam Smith has just scored from a yard out.

26th minute.

5:57pm

Bush wins a corner for Hereford.

5:56pm

Hereford's assistant manager Steve Jenkins jots a note on his white piece of paper.

Hereford are playing some neat passing but the final cross or ball in has not been good enough so far.

5:54pm

5:53pm

The news of Chester's goal has filtered through to Hereford's excellent away following.

The away fans are quiet at the moment.

5:52pm

That was close for the Shots.

Josh Scott twists and turns inside the box and curls a shot narrowly past a post.

21 mins gone and Aldershot are getting a foothold.

5:50pm

As it stands, Hereford will be relegated tonight.

If Chester win - they are leading 1-0 - Hereford will be relegation whatever happens here.

Hereford are playing some neat football.

But the Shots break through and Rob Purdie makes a vital challenge to deny Scott.

5:45pm

The bad news is that Chester have taken the lead against Salisbury. Oh dear.

5:42pm

Hereford have made a good start.

Hereford have just had a penalty appeal turned down after Rankine tumbled inside the box.

And Bowen shot narrowly wide from close range.

We have played 12 mins.

5:41pm

Beadle is not wearing his cap and shorts today. He is wearing a black jumper and grey trousers.

5:39pm

I saw club photographer Steve Niblett on the pitch earlier and he was wearing a red cap in tribute to United boss Pete Beadle.

5:37pm

Bowen had just one thing in his mind when he picked up the ball around 25 yards out.

His shot was heading for the far corner and the keeper did well to keep it out.

5:36pm

CLOSE for Hereford.

Jarrod Bowen goes close after four minutes.

His low drive was tipped out by Morris and the keeper also blocked Smith's follow up.

5:34pm

5:33pm

The away end has certainly filled up in the last five minutes and they are in good voice.

I would estimate between 600 and 800 United fans are here for this huge match.

5:32pm

5:32pm

We are under way at the Recreation Ground and Aldershot are on the attack.

Oyeleke flashes a low shot narrowly past a post after just 40 seconds.

5:30pm

5:23pm

We are awaiting the arrival of the teams on to the pitch as Hereford's fans are chanting "Hereford till I die."

5:21pm

5:21pm

This is my first trip to the Recreation Ground and the train station is directly behind the stand on the far side of the pitch.

5:19pm

I have just looked at a poll on our website.

63 per cent of those have voted believe that Hereford will be relegated tonight.

Let's all hope that isn't the case.

It won't be a day for the faint hearted.

5:17pm

Stay with us - we are just 15 minutes away from kick off.

Hereford's fans are in good voice in the right hand corner behind the goal to my left.

Some Hereford fans are just erecting a banner on the open terrace.

5:12pm

5:09pm

Joel Edwards and Sam Gwynne are on the bench for Hereford today.

Westfields, for whom they played in the County Cup final on Wednesday night, have drawn 3-3 at home to Coventry Sphinx.

5:08pm

Aldershot team news:  Morris, Oastler, Tonkin, Stanley, Mekki, Brett Williams, Barker, Scott, Moseley, Oyeleke, Phillips. Subs: Rowlands, Paterson, Bubb, Roberts, Luke Williams.

Referee: Peter Bankes.

5:05pm

5:03pm

5:03pm

5:00pm

Team news

Hereford: Lloyd-Weston, Bush, James, Graham, Purdie, Smith, Collins, Rankine, Artus, Edge, Bowen. Subs: Walker, Edwards, Brown, Gwynne, Williams.

4:58pm

4:57pm

4:48pm

I spoke to Hereford United supporter Mike Tricklebank on the way into the ground.

Mike, a season ticket holder, said he was very nervous about today's matches.

"I think the inevitable is going to happen," said Mike.

"I think we have little chance of seeing out the day and remaining in the Conference Premier," he added.

4:45pm

Peter Beadle is just about to give an interview to BT Sport next to the Hereford fans in the far corner of the ground.

It is raining here at the moment and Beadle is under a white umbrella.

4:39pm

4:37pm

4:36pm

4:36pm

4:34pm

Here we are then - it is a huge afternoon for Hereford United in their battle to stay in the Conference Premier.

The match kicks off at 5.30pm and Hereford must win at Aldershot to stand a chance of avoiding the drop.

However, Hereford's fate is not in their own hands - if Chester win at home to Salisbury, United will be relegated.
