KINGSLEY James' 61st minute strike brought some welcome respite as the Bulls remembered how to win after 13 games without a victory.

And the success at Welling could hardly have been more timely with relegation rivals Aldershot Town also finding their form with an extraordinary 4-1 success at play-off chasing Alfreton, who visit Edgar Street on Easter Monday.

The match at Parkview Road brought vindication - if, indeed, it needed any - for caretaker boss Peter Beadle's decision to go with youth in United's quest to beat the drop.

Leominster teenagers Jarrod Bowen and Billy Murphy both played significant parts in the win.

Murphy, on his Conference debut, gave a man-of-the-match display in a holding midfield role.

And Bowen, as well as playing a key part in James' match-winner, was a constant threat to the Welling defence as his confidence continues to grow.

James, goalkeeper Dan Lloyd-Weston, Dom Collins and Danny Leadbitter, all not long past their teens, also contributed strongly.

But experience also had a part to play with skipper Luke Graham masterminding the defensive effort, Michael Rankine providing the leadership in attack and Rob Purdie, who made a crucial goalline clearance early on, a strong influence.

"It was a massive win for us," said Purdie.

"And it was a good way to win, too, with the togetherness we had from holding on is something we can take into the game against Gateshead on Saturday.

"For Billy Murphy to come in and play like he did was unbelievable.

"And I believe that Jarrod Bowen is the best player we've got - his work-rate is tremendous but he's also got a good football brain.

"The pair of them were different class at Welling, I'm sure they will have great future in the game.

"There will be a bit of pressure on Gateshead on Saturday as they are looking to get into the play-offs.

"We've got to look to get at least another four points and then that should be enough. No-one wants it to go to the last day."

With Hyde relegated and Tamworth set to join them, four clubs are battling with the Bulls to avoid the other two drop spots - Aldershot Town, Chester, Southport and Dartford.

The remaining games for the five clubs involved are: Aldershot - Macclesfield (a), Salisbury (h), Woking (a), Hereford (h); Chester - Grimsby (a), Wrexham (h), Cambridge (a), Salisbury (h); Southport - Tamworth (h), Gateshead (a), Halifax (h), Welling (a); Dartford - Grimsby (h), Forest Green (h), Braintree (a), Tamworth (h), Nuneaton (a); Hereford - Gateshead (h), Tamworth (a), Alfreton (h), Aldershot (a).
