IT was a night of contrasting fortunes for the two goalkeepers as Hereford United dropped two points against fellow Skrill Premier strugglers Chester at Edgar Street on Tuesday night.

While Chester's Jon Danby pulled off a string of brilliant saves, it was an evening to forget for Bulls debutant Dan Lloyd-Weston.

After being named for his full debut in the absence of Rhys Evans, Lloyd-Weston dropped the ball to allow Craig Lindfield to prod home an equaliser just seconds after Hereford had taken the lead through Jason Jarrett's own goal.

And the keeper then made a hash of a clearance and was left stranded yards from his own goal-line as Gareth Seddon rolled the ball home on 21 minutes.

While Lloyd-Weston protested that he was impeded for the first goal, he wasn't getting much backing from his manager.

"I don't think it was a foul," said Martin Foyle.

"I thought it was a legitimate goal and then, after that, the second goal was another big mistake. I don't know where Dan was going.

"They are the sort of goals that will get me the sack and whatever level you play at, it was poor. The two goals put pressure on me."

It was a mark of Hereford's spirit that they battled back into the game after the two stunning blows had quietened the crowd.

Frankie Artus swung a free-kick into the area and Ross Dyer met the ball perfectly to flick a header into the net.

Dyer had also claimed the first goal but it seemed clear that the final touch, after the impressive Danny Leadbitter had crossed from the right, was Jarrett's.

The on-loan striker, whose first month from Mansfield has now expired, had a great chance to put the Bulls ahead four minutes after the break but was stretching to reach another Leadbitter cross and his effort lacked power.

Danby followed up with a string of excellent saves as he denied Michael Rankine, Artus and then Josh O'Keefe while Chris Bush was only inches from being a contender for this year's Ronnie Radford award with a 40-yard screamer which just cleared the bar.

Hereford battled to the end but were unable to find a way through and the result leaves them just a place outside the drop zone.

"The spirit is there, we just lack that little bit of quality and perhaps that bit of luck," said Foyle.

"Everyone just wants that win but that was a game we couldn't afford to lose but could easily have lost if we had wobbled and gone 3-1 down."
