A DEFLECTED free-kick consigned the Bulls to their first defeat of 2013 at the hands of high-flying Leominster.
Hereford boss Martin Foyle announced an unchanged starting line-up with the only alteration on the bench where Chris Carruthers returned in place of Simon Clist.
Hereford showed a little bit of uncertainty in the early stages and it took a cushioned header from James Musa to get the ball back to Dan Hanford.
Hereford forced the first corner but the flag-kick from Sam Clucas was comfortably cleared.
On 11 minutes, Danny Wright got the better of Musa on the Wrexham right and cut into the Hereford area before rifling in a cross-shot which Hanford parried away to safety.
With Wrexham on top, Brett Ormerod set up a shooting chance for Wright whose powerful drive was blocked well by Stefan Stam.
Hanford, whose kicking had been extremely erratic in the early stages, redeemed himself with a save from Jay Harris as Wrexham continued to dominate.
Hereford were still being pinned back into their own half for much of the time and struggling to find their own men with passes.
On 29 minutes, though, the Bulls forced a chance from Musa’s long throw when a Ryan Bowman shot was deflected out for a corner.
Clucas’ cross brought a header from Bowman which was saved by Chris Maxwell.
Down at the other end, though, a poor challenge from Marley Watkins brought a free-kick 20 yards out.
The shot from Harris was deflected and flew past Hanford into the net.
Hereford struck back by forcing another corner and this time Stam powered in a header from Clucas’ cross which was booted off the line by Stephen Wright.
Watkins then broke away down the right and cut in on to his left foot but his shot was weak and easily saved.
Stam got in another header from a Kingsley James free-kick but this time the ball skidded outside a post.
With Hereford starting to mount some pressure, Neil Ashton and Chris Westwood were cautioned in quick succession for fouls.
Then Maxwell had to stretch to tip over a header from Josh O’Keefe following a Watkins free-kick.
Wrexham’s first corner of the game came in the 43rd minute and it almost brought a second goal.
Dean Keates’ cross was punched away by Hanford at the near post and eventually reached Joe Clarke, whose drive struck Andy Gallinagh on its way over.
In first-half stoppage time, good work by Chris Sharp set up a chance for Clucas who sliced his effort high over.
Watkins made an early raid down the right but over-hit his cross beyond the far post.
Hereford continued to enjoy the better of play at the start of the second period but Clarke sent a shot fizzing just wide as Wrexham showed they still have some attacking intent.
Sharp missed a glorious chance to level on 59 minutes, heading a Watkins cross weakly straight at Maxwell from inside the six-yard box.
Jackson arrived in place of the disappointing Sharp with 20 minutes left and Hereford almost immediately earned a free-kick 25 yards out in a similar position to the one which brought the Wrexham goal.
Hereford’s Clucas, however, dids not have the same fortune as Harris and his shot was fielded by the diving Maxwell.
Hereford continued to press without ever finding the pass or the cross to create a chance which might threaten Maxwell’s goal.
And, with Hereford becoming increasingly exposed as they sought the equaliser, Graham produced a superb block to deny substitute Glen Little.
As the game moved into stoppage time, Watkins earned a free-kick on the edge of the Wrexham area.
But Bowman produced a poor shot, firing straight at the wall.
