HEREFORD cast aside two important points with a staggeringly inept display against a poor Telford side.
The Bulls could hardly have had a better start with a second-minute goal from Marley Watkins.
But they went on to produce an extraordinarily poor display, predictably conceding a goal to Gerard Kinsella in injury time at the end of a dreadful 90 minutes.
Hereford boss Martin Foyle named an unchanged team for the visit of long-time rivals Telford.
Sam Clucas was not fit to return so James Musa was given a home debut on the left of the Bulls midfield.
Telford, without a win in 14 games, included five former Bulls in their 16-man squad, skipper Ryan Valentine, Dan Preston, Steve Leslie, Jordan Rose and Kris Taylor.
Hereford made an excellent start with a goal inside two minutes.
Stefan Stam played a long ball out to the right flank and Watkins eluded Valentine’s challenge.
The winger raced on into the Telford area and enjoyed a little fortunate when the ball rebounded to him off Jordan Rose but then smashed a low drive into the bottom corner.
Ryan Bowman might have doubled the score two minutes later when he charged down an attempted clearance by Ryan Young but then failed to get any real power in his shot which was easily saved by the keeper.
It was Telford who won the first corner of the game on 10 minutes but it brought an immediate counter-attack from Hereford when Young had to tip over Bowman’s fierce effort.
Nothing came from that but another tricky run from Watkins forced a second and the winger quickly gained a third.
However, from none of the flag-kicks was any real danger created.
On 19 minutes, Phil Trainer did well to clear another dangerous Watkins cross for a corner,
Harry Pell’s low, driven cross was put behind by Will Salmon and Pell’s next cross was gathered by Young at the second attempt.
Telford’s attack was little in evidence early on but, on 23 minutes, a foul by Luke Graham gave Steve Jones the chance to deliver a cross into the area.
James Bittner made a hash of dealing with the cross but Stam put the ball out for a corner.
Hereford, however, should have added a second on 28 minutes when Josh O’Keefe found the space to get in a shot from eight yards but, somehow, guided the ball wide when it seemed easier to score.
Former Buck Chris Sharp was next to try his luck with a left-foot shot on the turn which drifted just wide of an upright.
But Telford struck back to enjoy their best spell of the game.
With Trainer doing well in midfield, the ball was worked to Jamie Spray out on the left and his cross was deflected against the Hereford woodwork by Luke Graham before the danger was cleared.
Hereford were continuing to make life hard for themselves and some poor defending by Pell gifted the ball to Leslie.
The winger’s cross reached Spray who drilled a shot into the side-netting.
The second half began with a booking for Preston for a blatant shove on Sharp.
But the early stages of the half featured little in the way of cohesive football with neither side able to make any constructive attacks.
The best early move came from Hereford with Pell winning the ball in midfield before striding forward and releasing Sharp whose shot hit the side-netting.
Musa then raced through but saw his shot blocked for a corner by Young.
With Hereford dominating possession, Pell’s shot was deflected behind for a corner by Trainer.
Yet again, the flag-kick was poor and was followed by a foul throw from Watkins who hardly covered himself with glory in that passage of play.
With Telford coming back into the game, Pell gained his customary yellow card on 68 minutes for a foul on Steve Jones, shortly before Sharp was replaced by Kyle Perry.
As Hereford got worse and worse, Heath was also cautioned for a clumsy challenge on Jones on 76 minutes.
But the Bulls were lucky again when Bittner and Graham decided to leave a clearance to each other with Kieron St Aimie nipping in.
Fortunately, Graham was able to recover and force the Bucks striker wide and the opening was gone.
But Telford continued to cause problems for the Hereford defence and a cross from Valentine drifted just inches wide of Bittner’s far upright.
With substitutes Simon Clist and Brian Smikle also introduced, Foyle was doing his best to introduce a little urgency into his side.
But the standard of play showed little sign of improving with a succession of misplaced passes and lost possession.
At the start of injury time, the equaliser predictably arrived.
Sloppy defending on the left allowed Leslie to deliver a cross and Gerard Kinsella rose at the far post to head home.
Pell, however, did come close to a spectacular late winner with a free-kick which was brilliantly tipped over by Young.
