JOHN Mills says he has a target in mind for how many goals he wants to score this season after once again being on the mark for Hereford.

The prolific marksman, who netted 57 goals for Didcot Town last season, scored twice against Shepshed Dynamo to take his tally to 10 from nine games.

"I think I could have scored a few more but I know that with the chances we create, than either myself or the other strikers or midfielders can get the goals, especially with the wide players we have got," said Mills.

"Ten is not bad so far but I have got a target in mind of what I would like to get."

The winning goal came after substitute Carlos Moreira was brought down with four minutes to go.

The Shepshed bench were furious with referee Ollie Williams' decision, believing their player had won the ball.

"From where I was situated, it was debatable but in football, sometimes you get them, sometimes you don't," said Mills.

"At Stourport, from the angle where I was, I don't think it was a penalty, but you sometimes get the rub of the green.

"It wasn't a good start to the second half, but it was only a matter of time when we got the second goal after equalising."

Mills believes Hereford are getting better after a poor start to the season.

"It wasn't a great start for us for the first four or five games because we were still gelling and getting to know each other on and off the pitch, but for the last four or five games, we have been getting better and the results reflect that," he said.

Hereford started new signing Ryan Green at right-back in place of the injured Jimmy Oates, while Moreira only made the substitutes bench after Nathan Hughes, who was due to start, pulled out in the warm-up.

Sol Wheatley took Hughes' place while Sirqic Grant, who was on trial for the Bulls in pre-season, was on the bench after receiving international clearance.

The first half was devoid of any real opportunities, with both sides struggling to get a foothold in the game.

But the game sprang into action soon after the re-start, with both sides scoring in the opening three minutes.

Hereford failed to deal with a low Shepshed cross from the left and Matt Langham was on hand to put Shepshed ahead.

But Mills restored parity moments just two minutes later when he looped the ball past Shepshed goalkeeper Ryan Price after being set up by Pablo Haysham.

Price then denied Mills scoring a second goal before the away side were reduced to ten men after 68 minutes.

Lee Miveld, who was already booked, received his marching orders after bringing down Adam Page.

Mill's header was then acrobatically tipped over by Price but the striker did grab the winner from the penalty spot to the relief of the Hereford supporters.
