FORMER Hereford United manager Graham Turner said he was very impressed with Hereford FC's performance on Saturday after they thrashed Dunkirk 4-1.

Turner, who was also director of football at Edgar Street, was a a special guest at the game.

"It was an outstanding performance, I don't think supporters realise the pressure of the opening day of the season and for the players to get a right result in front of a big crowd," said Turner.

"John Mill's three goals were outstanding, but not only that he looked a very intelligent player.

"He made some great runs in behind defenders and I think he looks an outstanding player.

"There were various combinations throughout the side that were impressive and I think the future depends on the back with Tony James and Nathan Summers.

"Apart from their goal, I thought the two of them had a good understanding between them.

"Obviously I'm interested in the players that I've worked with.

"I thought Rob Purdie got better the longer the game went on.

"It was an outstanding ball for the third goal so it was a very impressive display."

Turner said the large attendance showed the level of support that there is at the club

"I look at the situation on the whole at this club and I think any fair minded supporter anywhere in the country would have sympathised with the plight of the Hereford fans and the way the club was ripped apart," he said.

"What they have got to look forward to now is solid supporters in charge of the club and they're in it for the right reasons.

"To be playing at this level and have over 4,000 to watch the match is the testimony of the level of support for the club and where they can go.

"I was delighted when I received a letter from Jon Hale inviting me to the game because I know many people who are backing the club and it was great to see them again."
