DESPITE playing in the fifth tier, only six on-league teams have attracted more supporters than Hereford FC this season.

Prior to Tuesday night's game against Lye Town, the Bulls have an average gate of 2,944 - over 600 more than Cheltenham Town, who are eighth in the list.

Hereford have yet to have a home crowd that has dipped below 2,000, with their latest gate attracting 2,006 fans to Edgar Street – despite it being their third home game in 10 days.

The Bulls' highest gate was on the opening game of the season, when 4,060 turned up to watch them record an opening day win against Dunkirk.

The list is topped by National League Premier big-hitters Tranmere Rovers, who were relegated from the Football League last season.

Tranmere have an average attendance of 5,551, with Wrexham second on the list with 5,012.

Grimsby Town, Stockport County and FC United of Manchester complete the top five, with Lincoln City just ahead of Hereford in sixth.

Chester and Kidderminster Harriers are ninth and 10th respectively, with Forest Green Rovers, who lead the National League Premier, in 13th place.

Westfields, meanwhile are 39th, with their average attendance of 710 significantly helped by a capacity crowd of 1,825 turning up to watch them face Hereford last month.

Worcester City are 55th, with Stourport Swifts the second highest Midland League side in 66th.
