HEREFORD FC manager Pete Beadle says new signing Jamie Willets will play a massive part at the club this season.

The 6ft 3in centre-back has joined the Bulls from Stourport Swifts and will be available for this Saturday's Midland Football League Premier Division game at Heanor Town.

Willets, who is 23, was Stourport's captain and Beadle says he has been impressed with his leadership qualities.

"We’re delighted that he’s agreed to come, it’s taken well over a week, we’ve done things properly as best we can," Beadle told the Hereford FC website.

"Jamie wanted to come in and speak to me personally, we’ve done that this morning, spoken about what his ambitions are, and what our ambitions are.?“One of the things that caught our eye is his leadership qualities, he’s a big dominant centre half, he’s mobile, but he’s very commanding, his communications skills were very good.

“He’s a player who can move forward with us, he’s not just a stop-gap until the end of the season, he’s one who can move forward with us and progress.

"And he’s one who we would like to think can be a centre half with us here for a number of years to come hopefully.”

Willets added that the club's ambitions sold the move to him.

“I’m a no nonsense player, I win my headers, win my tackles and if I can play, then I play it simple," he said,

“I’m so impressed with the facilities, with the ice-baths, the way the players get treated, absolutely unbelievable, it’s going to be a whole new situation for me.

"I’m really looking forward to it, I’m so impressed, it’s very professional."

Willets added that it was a hard to leave Stourport.

“It was a massive decision to leave, I’ve got a lot of good friends there, it’s been a really hard decision to leave the club for a team in the same league, but I feel I’ve got to be selfish on this one, I feel that this club can help me kick on in my career," he said.
