HEREFORD FC's new strike duo want to take the club up through the leagues.

John Mills and Pablo Heysham scored 70 goals between them for higher-graded Didcot Town in the Southern Football League Division One South & West last season – with Mills notching 57 of them.

And they have already shown what they can do by both scoring in a friendly win at Hellenic League side Brimscombe & Thrupp on Tuesday night.

"I'm excited about the challenge ahead and hoping to get Hereford back up to the divisions that they should be in," said Mills.

"I know about their demise from the Football League down to the non-league and last season didn't end very well.

"But Peter (Beadle) got in contact with me in the summer and told me about the challenges ahead and I'm happy to do that with him.

"He called me about four or five weeks ago but I was trialling with a couple of other clubs and the timing wasn't exactly right then.

"But I got back in contact and during the last couple of weeks talks have advanced and we started to agree early last week."

Mills added that he doesn't feel the pressure of banging in the goals to help Hereford gain promotion at the first attempt and he has no problem dropping down a division.

"We'll play the same way that we always do and always try our hardest," he said.

"Staying at Didcot was an option, but this challenge was more tempting for myself and Pablo and playing in front of fans and taking Hereford up the divisions is something that we couldn't turn down."

Heysham added that having the chance to play in front of a large number of fans was key to the pair joining Hereford.

"Having spoken to Peter, he spoke very highly of the club, the way it's run in a very professional manner and the fans support was a massive part of it," said Haysham.

"Playing for this club is something that I was looking forward to and appealed to me very much.

Hereford opened the scoring against Gloucestershire-based Brimscombe & Thrupp through a fantastic volley from Haysham before doubling the advantage after being set up by Mills. Solomon Wheatley made it 3-0 before half-time before Brimscombe pulled a goal back.

But Heysham grabbed his second goal of the dame to restore the three goal advantage, with another Brimscombe goal merely being a consolation.

The game saw the introduction of United in the Community player Carlos Moreira, who, along with Tom Gameson, have registered to play for the first team.

"We thought it was important that we had one or two signed so we now have a pathway through our UITC team and they will train with us on a regular basis.

"Tom's another centre-forward but can also play wide and Carols is more of a midfield player.

"Both have bags of potential and ability, now it's up to them to prove it on a bigger stage."

Hereford's Under-18's demolished Barry Town 6-1 on Tuesday, with Sam Oxley scoring all of the goals.
