SAM Pearson says he was pleased to get on the scoresheet again for Hereford on Tuesday and will be hoping to do the same this weekend against his former club Pegasus Juniors.

The striker, who is from Leominster, netted Hereford's second goal against Wellington that helped seal a 4-2 win.

"I'm looking forward to Saturday and I will hopefully try and get a goal against them (Pegasus)," said Pearson.

"I know a lot of the lads and a lot of people down there, it will be a nice feeling to go back there.

"It's getting closer to the season but hopefully I will continue to score goals and work hard to get a contract.

"It's good to get back on the scoresheet, I haven't scored in two or three games so it was nice to get one and get the flow of things back going.

Wellington, who started with Adam Newbury, who was recently on trial at Hereford, had the best chance of the first half when Matt Aubrey blazed over the bar from close range.

But Hereford's quality told after the break and they opened the scoring in the 53rd minute through 18-year-old midfielder Adam Paige before Pearson doubled the advantage.

Wellington reduced the arrears when Josh Hunt, who scored the winning goal at Camberley Town on Saturday, slotted home after rounding Hereford goalkeeper Reece Lovitt, but Hereford scored again through Sam Hunt.

Paul Jones netted a penalty for Welly after Steve Brotherwood was judged to have been pushed over, but Hereford had the last word when Nathan Hughes' shot was deemed to have crossed the line before Wellington cleared it.

"I thought Wellington were fantastic, there's a good shape to them and were a threat going forward," said Hereford assistant manager Matt Bishop, who picked the team due to Peter Beadle being away.

"We've had quite a few games and had a large number of players come into the club to look at.

"Some got 90 minutes, others got 75, it's their opportunity to showcase what they can do."

Bishop said no new signings are imminent but they are happy with the squad so far.

"I know Peter is active every day and speaking to players, hopefully we'll be in a position that by August 8, we'll have the majority of the squad in place," said Bishop.

Wellington manager Derek Williams added: "I think we probably made a few mistakes for our goals and missed some chances, but they play some nice football and hopefully they will do well in their league next season."
