HEREFORD Football Club should know today what league they will be playing in next season.

The likely scenario is that the new club will be placed at step five of the non-league pyramid, probably in the Midland Premier League – the same division as Westfields.

However, due to Hereford's large fan base, which has seen season ticket sales rise to more than 700, there is a chance that they could go in one step higher.

Hereford FC chairman Jon Hale said the club will accept whatever decision the Football Association make.

"We're not going to challenge it and know they've got their rules," said Hale.

"Everything we have done was based on being in step five and there will be no major chance with the budget regardless of what league we're in.

"It would help Peter Beadle (manager) considerably though knowing what level we're at because there would be no ambiguity and everyone knows where they stand.

"It seems that the signs are that we'll be at step five, but we've just got to wait like everyone else."

Hale said that the club has had two meetings with the FA.

"We had a first meeting so they could put a face to the name and was an opportunity to give them a little bit more detail.

"Our second one was a case of meeting with various people and answer any questions they had with the budget and anything else in terms of any barriers we had faced, which there haven't been.

"It was an opportunity to tell them how well season tickets had gone

Matt Phillips, public relations officer at the FA, said he does now expect an announcement to be made until this afternoon at the earliest.

Meanwhile, Hereford have announced that Hull City's under-21 side will visit Edgar Street on Saturday, August 1, which could be their last pre-season friendly.

Former Hereford United player Jarrod Bowen, who scored the winning goal against Alfreton in the penultimate game of last season, plays for Hull and it is hoped he will grace Edgar Street once more.

"It would be nice to see Jarrod Bowen play, it's a good friendly," said Hale.

Work is ongoing to ensure Hereford can be granted a safety certificate in time for their first home friendly against FC United of Manchester on July 11.

Electrical, building and plumbing contractors are currently at the ground, while volunteers helped with a clean-up job over the weekend.

Hale said that the club's safety advisory group includes representatives from Herefordshire Council, who are confident that the work will be completed in time.

The capacity, Hale added, would probably be just less than 5,000, with the Blackfriars End closed.

Official merchandise is also now on sale at the club, while a fans forum will be held at the Railway (GWRSA) Club on Wednesday.

Hale, Beadle, assistant manager Matt Bishop and Hereford United Supporters Trust (HUST) chairman Chris Williams will be answering questions from 8pm.

HUST members are also being asked to vote on Hereford's new away kit.
