FORMER Hereford United striker Steve Guinan said he has been blown away by the amount of support he has received for this Sunday’s charity game.

Guinan, United’s record Conference goalscorer, is organising a match between a Hereford United XI and a team made up of Bulls supporters.

The game will be held at Westfields’ allpay.park ground at 2.30pm, with proceeds going towards Children with Cancer.

Both teams will have ex-Bulls managers in the dugout. Guinan’s side will be bossed by Graham Turner, while Pete Beadle will manage the fans’ team.

“I have been a bit blown away by the amount of support people have given for the game,” said Guinan.

“It’s been quite hard to organise, but it does look like we will have a great turn-out with lots of ex-players.

“It will be nice to see them back in the same team and managed by Graham.

“I haven’t seen him for a long time, nor have some of the other players, so it will be good to have a chat.”

Up to 25 ex-United players are also set to play, including Paul Parry, Gavin Williams, Ben Smith, Ryan Green and Stuart Fleetwood.

Smith said he cannot wait for the game.

“I’m really looking forward to it because I haven’t had the opportunity to come back to Hereford before,” said Smith.

“I made a lot of good friends there, so it will be a good chance to see everyone again.”

Other ex-players set to lace their boots include Rob Purdie, Luke Graham and Rob Elmes.

Guinan said he is still struggling for a goalkeeper and may have to field a youth-team player.

Who will captain his side is also unclear at this stage.

“We will have a chat to see who will it will be,” said Guinan.

“There are quite a few ex-captains to choose from.”

Guinan hopes as many people as possible will turn up, including representatives from Hereford FC.

“I would like Jon Hale and Martin Watson to be there and for everyone to show the FA that there is a real hub and support in the city for a new football club,” he said.

There will be a minute’s applause prior to the game in memory of ex-Bulls striker Adam Stansfield, whose family will be in attendance.

An auction will also take place, with lots of sporting memorabilia up for grabs, including signed Eden Hazard and James Milner shirts and a framed Carl Froch boxing glove.

“I will try and pick up some more items, so there may be some additional ones by the weekend,” said Guinan. Entry for the game is £4 for adults and £1 for under 16s.
