HEREFORD United are staring at relegation from the Conference structure after failing to pay their football creditors.

United were told by Conference officials they needed to settle their debts with football creditors by 5pm or faced being expelled from the structure.

Hereford United’s players and staff tonight confirmed they have not received any payments from the club today.

And a message on Hereford United's official Twitter account says: "Hereford United will not be making any statement tonight regarding the current financial situation at Edgar Street."

New owner Tommy Agombar says he has the necessary £148,000 to pay off the Bulls’ football creditors, claimed Hereford United Supporters Trust vice-chairman Martin Watson.

However, Watson said Agombar had wanted written assurances from Conference bosses that the club would remain in the Conference Premier.

Conference general manager Dennis Strudwick told the Hereford Times yesterday that United were not in a position to call the tune and needed to play by the competition’s rules.

Hereford United Independent Supporters Association chairman Keith Dodd said he was extremely disappointed for the fans and the players.

Dodd said: “We are worried to death – it does not look like the deadline set by the Conference has been met.”

He added: “People will be in tears tonight and tomorrow will be absolutely devastating.”

Watson said: “We have not paid the football creditors so what the Conference are now going to do is probably the worst case scenario.”

On the pitch, United escaped relegation from the Conference Premier after a heart-stopping 2-1 win at Aldershot on the final day of the season.

But United’s fate will now be decided at a Conference board meeting tomorrow (Friday) at the Celtic Manor in Newport, South Wales.

David Keyte, who has had a much troubled and traumatic four-year reign at Edgar Street, remains as Hereford United chairman.

Keyte is expected to attend tomorrow's Conference board meeting.

The Conference’s annual general meeting takes place on Saturday morning.
