I joined Hereford United October 2012 as bar and functions manager.

After two years at Credenhill Social Club, where I rebuilt the trade and the community spirit, I was looking for a new challenge where I could make a difference.

It became very clear to me that there was a lack of affordable venues in Hereford and, having recently reopened the Starlite Room, Hereford United had a perfect opportunity to enter this market; this would increase the revenue to support the team.

I was quickly made very welcome by all the staff and the supporters and felt part of the football community instantly.

Being a Herefordian, I have seen the highs and lows of the club, my earliest recollection is listening to Danny Lee singing Hereford United We All Love You; and I love to hear the crowd on a matchday in high spirits, which isn’t heard enough these days.

In the last 12 months, we have seen bookings for our function rooms multiply hugely for a variety of different functions. To this day, I am still amazed that the Starlite Room remained closed for so long - now it is a significant part of the day-to-day revenue for the club.

It has been a big team effort to advertise and promote the rooms as much as possible; we have a small hospitality team who are all dedicated to making every function we put on the best ever.

We also have a large group of volunteers who tirelessly fundraise to help the club as a whole.

We are in the process of decorating the function rooms and modernising some of the furniture; all of this has been possible with the help of many volunteers.

In the past six months, we have tried to diversify the types of functions we hold; along with the private bookings, HUFC regularly hold tribute evenings, prize bingo, quiz nights, sportman’s dinners and band nights - more details available on the official website. The club staff are always sharing their ideas with me; but fresh ideas are always welcome from anyone.

Another venture I have adopted on behalf of Hereford United is providing the welfare canteen for the McAlpine Site, which has now had to relocate to the Starlite Room in order to make room for more building to take place.

It means that we can now cater for the general public during the week in the Starlite Room, so please come and give us a try.

Our time spent on the McAlpine site has been highly profitable for HUFC and professional relationships have been made with both contractors and new businesses coming into the city.

Even though we are experiencing difficult times at the club, the functions within the club are going from strength to strength. I am personally at the club on a daily basis for anyone wanting to discuss an event or book a private function.

Hereford United is open to everyone and no membership is required. The continued success of the Starlite Room is down to you, the supporters, and remember, we're now open in the week for breakfasts and lunches again so please come and say hello, a friendly welcome awaits.
