THERE'S nothing like playing 90 minutes a lot earlier than expected in the sweltering summer heat. That’s what Sammy, Gallers and I had to do after hitting a brick wall after 60 minutes. We took pride in the clean sheet and I thought in the first half we had the chances to put the game to bed. The support was awesome and I was delighted with the backing for the club.

Sunday gave us players the chance to meet the fans at the Open day and it also gave me a chance to meet “The Harry Pell Fan Club”. His popularity doesn’t surprise me; he could talk the Queen into knighting him that boy. It was a good day and ended up with the fans match against the Hereford Legends.

Yet it was the legends match that got me thinking… What is a Legend? I think the best way to become one is to win something. If you don’t, you have to be a darn good player in an unsuccessful team; no one remembers those teams fondly.

It must be nice to get an invite back to a club for a match and be appreciated for the job you’ve done. Though, for me, I don’t want to be that darn good player, I’d much rather be remembered as part of a successful team. It’s about the memories, I’ve had some great so far yet I want as many more as I can to look back on. Then I can have my pick of which charity matches to attend and I’m sure Hereford United will be a choice.

Tuesday night’s game finally gave us a few goals to see and it was great to see our three strikers get on the score sheet. They win you games and it’s important that we have people who know where the back of the net is.

Sean Canham, in particular, took his goal extremely well off his steel chest and hit his personal target of “one for the season”. Pressure is off him now! It was comfortable out there in the second half and I was pleased we seaw the game out well. We have to play better, though.

The team bonding exercises continued with a paintballing outing at Oaker Wood. It was the Staff XI Team that I ended up on, along with Towner, Canno and Marley, versus the Players. We had five games and it’s fair to say that the Staff XI won every game at a canter!

Sean “Cannonball” Canham’s exit at one game was painful though, I must say; falling at the feet of three obliging opponents wasn’t a clever idea. It looks like he has love bites everywhere but I’m pretty sure by looking at him we know he’s not that lucky.

Harry was hard to hit, the long stick insect fitted in nicely into the woodland backgrounds! Stefan Stam confirmed that the Dutch had never gone to war and Sam Clucas was a blonde bombshell after his ginger locks got hit. It was great fun.

Even Rambo (Chris Carruthers) was watching from the side lines due to his latest war wound. Although I’m not sure Sylvester Stallone would be happy with his failure to enter the paintball battlefield.a I’m pretty sure he’s going to be a quick healer now that Everton are bringing some first team players over for Saturday!
