Pre-season games can be abit of a false dawn for everyone at a football club. You can never quite tell how a team is going to fare when the league games kick off, following pre-season form. Players nurse injuries, teams are mixed and a trialist called San Miguel from Barcelona’s B Team turns up for a game!

Yet I believe this is when a football club can start to form a bond from top to bottom. I believe it started on Saturday. The atmosphere was a positive one as soon as you walked into the club. The support from the fans was brilliant and was gratefully received out on the pitch. We worked hard for each other and our honest endeavour got us a result. A result for the football club, that’s the way it’s got to be.

On the field, we have several trialists training with us at the moment. The Gaffer has carefully identified them out as players and as people. As people, they will have to fit into our squad ethics we are forming: Togetherness, desire, honesty and hard work. I would love Lionel Messi to walk through the dressing rooms but it isn’t going to happen. I know there are a lot of players who are gambling on their careers and holding out for more money. That’s up to them.

I for one made sacrifices to get here (both arms twisted) and made the decision to sign for Hereford a football one. You won’t see me driving around in a Ferrari (unless you would care to sponsor one for me?!). Yet I believe I can help Hereford move forward again and build a successful team. I wouldn’t have signed here otherwise. It’s a short career and I want to have as many medals as I can. I’m positive the Gaffer can pull off some more arm twisting deals!

One trialist who has signed for us is Chris ‘RAMBO’ Carruthers. Sporting his bandage from Tuesday night’s game, he will now have a scar as a famous Hereford memory! He is my travelling and overnight stay partner from Northampton. I know the worries he has been through, not being paid since May 1st and am delighted he has signed a contract for us (he makes a great cup of tea!). He has been successful, is experienced at this level and also makes my outfits look very good!

Off the field, people behind the scenes are full of life and working hard for us. I’ve spoken to them while having a regular game of pool (won my first game today so I’m not sharking) and eating an omelette in the Addison’s bar. Whether it’s a greeting at the reception desk, painting the away changing room an awful colour or getting us a sponsor, they are good people and breathe Hereford United . We are very grateful to have them. Although I don’t appreciate being confused for Will Evans, I’m in dire need of a haircut but that is going too far!

The way the game ended Tuesday night was a shame. The 1st half wasn’t good, yet there were nine of us waiting on the side lines chomping at the bit. We moved the ball quicker 2nd half and I felt we would have won the game. I look forward to Saturday and seeing the famous Hereford away support in full flow!
