This week's view from Edgar Street is by Chris Ammonds, commercial manager at Hereford FC.

HAVING made the journey to Edgar Street to watch football for more than 30 years – my first game was on Boxing Day in 1983 – it’s been more than a little surreal to be working out of an office overlooking the hallowed turf for the past few months.

It’s fair to say that time has flown by since the very first day the legendary Ken Kinnersley and I opened the doors to start selling season tickets, and were completely blown away by the number of smiling, happy people we saw who were only too pleased to open their wallets and purses to support the club.

From a personal point of view, I am incredibly proud of what has been achieved since the club was officially launched.

I am proud of the people who worked so hard in their own time to build a business plan that inspired confidence from four generous investors and the local council to make the club happen, but am equally proud of all the unsung heroes who have rolled up their sleeves and mucked in to ensure that there was a football team and ground to play at for the 2015/16 season.

Beyond that though, I am also very proud of the way supporters have embraced Hereford FC and the incredible commitment people are already showing to the club’s cause.

As football fans, we all endured just about the worst possible nightmare as the final stages of the Hereford United story played out, but the reaction since that fateful, final day in December has amazed me.

The number of replica shirts I see around the city is remarkable, while I now get asked about how things are going at Edgar Street in some weird and wonderful places.

My personal favourite was while batting for Ludlow in the Shropshire County Cricket League, although looking back that was probably just an attempt to disturb my concentration and get me out. Which, sadly, actually worked.

All in all though, it is best to describe the last few months as a rollercoaster of emotion.

However, it is one that will hopefully continue to see a club built that we can all be proud of.

As a club we cannot guarantee we will get everything right, but what I can guarantee is that everyone involved is making every decision with the best interests of the club’s long-term future at heart.

Which is exactly how it must be.
