FROM the moment supporters started to flock to Edgar Street on Saturday afternoon, you could tell something big had happened.

The vast majority of those fans had not stepped foot inside the ground for over a year, too upset at seeing a Hereford United that they did not recognise.

That club has now gone, but a new one has been born.

Saturday, July 11, 2015 will always be remembered when football came back to Edgar Street and the city had a club to support once more.

Hereford United Supporters Trust chairman Chris Williams, who is also vice-chairman at Hereford, said the day was all about the fans claiming back what was theirs.

"I didn't think Saturday was about the game and my expectations were that we wouldn't perform well because there would be lots of changes and were playing against a good team," said Williams.

"In terms of my expectations, Saturday was really about the fans taking Edgar Street back and calling it their own again.

"But in the end, it exceeded them because, first and foremost, we won the game, and secondly, there was a great atmosphere.

"The game was played in good spirits and both teams were quite competitive, you wouldn't have thought it was a friendly.

"Some good football was played by both sides, especially us in the second half and everyone enjoyed themselves."

Williams' prime responsibility was to ensure Hereford secured their safety certificate and that everyone was able to enjoy the game in a safe environment.

"Everything went off perfectly, we had loads of stewards and there were no incidents," said Williams.

"It was a very successful day and I don't think Edgar Street has ever looked so good."
