NEW Hereford FC signing Rob Purdie said he let his heart rule his head when he decided to return to Edgar Street.

The popular former Hereford United player was unveiled as manager Pete Beadle's seventh signing last week, joining Tony James, Joel Edwards, Harvey Rivers, Max Kontic-Coveney. Dylan Bonella and Ben Miller.

"I had a couple of other managers to speak to and was set to sign a couple of weeks ago, but didn't get the coaching job at UITC (United in the Community)," said Purdie.

"I was going to combine the two, so I range Beads (Pete Beadle) the next day saying I needed that extra bit more money.

"It was a massive blow top not get the UITC job so I spoke to a couple of other managers and told Pete Beadle that.

"He said he wanted to sign me so I spoke to my girlfriend to think about it.

"I wanted to play for something and didn't want the extra travelling.

"I wanted to be passionate about my football again and to achieve something, so decided to sign for Hereford.

"It may not be the best decision I have made financially, but overall for me and my family, it was the right decision.

"I let my heart rule over my head."

Purdie added that having ex-team-mate Tony James at the club was a big factor in him joining.

"I haven't got to express myself to a brand new set of players," said Purdie.

"I also know Joel and the lads from the youth teams, it's only Harvey Rivers that I don't know.

"It's good to have Tony and we will have to keep people going when the chips are down."

Training will start in Hereford on Tuesday, but at the time of going to press, a venue had not been finalised.

Beadle said that no new players will sign until pre-season gets underway.

"I think we have done some great business with the players we have signed and we have got some great players coming in for pre-season," said Beadle.

"We need to give them a couple of games as a lot of them will be in a scenario that they haven't been in before."

Early bird tickets, priced at £5 are available for Hereford's first friendly against Malvern Town, while ticket sales for the FC United of Manchester home game stood at just over 1,630 by Tuesday afternoon.
