ONE of about 12 'serious' candidates look like becoming Hereford FC's new manager.

Former Hereford United player Jimmy Harvey is one of 42 people who has applied for the position.

Harvey, who has managed Morecambe, Forest Green, Chester and Stalybridge Celtic, is currently living in the Wirral.

He said: "There are a lot of applicants but I would be very interested in the job.

Pete Beadle, who miraculously led the Bulls to safety last season, only to see the club thrown out of the Conference just weeks later due to mounting debts, is also in the frame.

"I am interested in it, but can't say anything else because the club is going through a process," said Beadle, who is currently based in Stratford-on-Avon.

"I have been doing other stuff, including scoring, and taking in plenty of games.

However, Steve Guinan, United's record Conference goalscorer, has not applied, saying it is the wrong time due to taking up a role with the Professional Football Association (PFA).

Hereford FC club secretary Martin Watson said there are about 12 serious candidates, but it is unclear when interviews will start.

"We haven't put a time scale on it but there are about 12 people who we think are capable of doing the job."

Meanwhile, Hereford FC are set to have the Edgar Street leases signed off by Herefordshire Council by the end of the month.

An electrical survey has shown that certain parts of the ground are unsafe and the new club will not take possession of the keys until they are resolved.

But, club chairman Jon Hale said repair work will be done as quickly as possible and has been assured by the council that the deal for the lease will be signed by Friday, March 27 at the latest.

Elsewhere, Mitzi Mace remains Hereford United's official receiver following a creditors meeting in Bristol on Monday.

Spokesman Ade Daramy said once Ms Mace has interviewed all directors and done a proper investigation as to what assets and liabilities can be issued, a report will be sent to all creditors.

That will take between eight to 10 weeks down the line, said Mr Daramy.
