HEREFORD United will be playing city-based outfit Sinkums at Edgar Street next Wednesday night.

Sinkums boss Tony Chadwick thinks it will be a good challenge for his men, who have gained promotion to Herefordshire Saturday League Division Two.

United are hoping to have a ground safety certificate in place, Chadwick said, which would allow fans to watch the friendly, which kicks off at 7.45pm.

“I understand that Hereford United have been paying off their debts so it should be a good night for Sinkums Football Club,” said Chadwick this afternoon.

“I read on a forum that people had been planning to throw tennis balls on to the pitch but, hopefully, things have calmed down a bit since we first talked about this match a few weeks ago.

“We have one die-hard Hereford United fan, Wayne Milner, and he is deciding whether he wants to play in this match."

United's new regime have come under fire for not paying football creditors to keep the club in the Football Conference.

United will now be competing in the Southern League Premier Division and Hereford United Supporters Trust (HUST) members have voted to boycott matches at Edgar Street.

Chadwick said: “We have got some top quality players and I am a bit worried that Hereford United might try to poach some them.

“We have players such as Luke Barefoot, Nathan Scotford and Damian Gallimore and I think Martin Adjei is one of the best defenders in the Herefordshire League.”

Sinkums play their home matches at Widemarsh Common and secured promotion from Division Three last term.

“I had a phonecall on Wednesday from Neil Phelps at Hereford United and we have decided to arrange a game between us on Wednesday night under the floodlights,” confirmed Chadwick.

“Hereford United played The Stagecoach last night and beat them 8-0 so it will be a good challenge for my lads."

Chadwick added: “I have never played at Edgar Street but a few of my lads have played there with former teams and the pitch looks in awesome condition.

“I want to watch my lads from the dug-out so I probably won’t start the game but I would to play, perhaps for the final 10 minutes.”
