Hereford race ace Luke Jones wants a shot at big time next season

HEREFORD race ace Luke Jones wants to impress the top teams for a shot at the big time next season.

The 23-year-old was ninth in the main Motorpoint British Supersport Championship at Oulton Park on Sunday.

However, Jones was first in the Supersport Cup, which is competed for by the newest riders in the Superstock 600 series.

“I will do my best and I hope to impress some of the top teams so that they might give me a chance to ride even better bikes in the class next year,” he said.

“Hopefully I will stand more chance of getting on the podium,” added Jones, who is racing for Triumph and competing this season for the 777 RR Motorsport team.

Jones had a mixed weekend after failing to finish his sprint race on Saturday.

But he bounced back to form in the main event 24 hours later.

“I was about seventh in line on Saturday, until a guy behind overtook me.

“I overtook him straight away but we were then involved in a collision,” said Jones. “I headed on to the wet grass which caused me to crash and I couldn’t finish the race.”

Jones is racing at Brands Hatch in Kent this weekend and will be hoping to turn a few heads.

The GP125 British Championship 2007 winner clinched last September’s Triumph Triple Challenge title aboard a KGD Racing Triumph.

The victory secured the former Aylestone School pupil a ride for this season’s Supersport 600 and Cup competitions. He has ridden previously for PR Racing in the British Superbike Championship (BSB), where he was the youngest racer in the paddock in 2010.
