HEREFORD once again fell short against one of the leading teams in Midlands 1 West, going down 38-14 at Wyeside.

An 11-minute spell in the first half saw Burton open up a 31-0 lead and, despite Hereford playing much better after the break, the game had long gone.

"It was not a great day in the office," conceded Hereford head coach Sean Lynn.

"Full credit to Burton, they came to Wyeside and reacted very positively to their previous loss and scored five tries in the first half.

"We fell asleep and didn’t play the conditions right, but the boys showed good character.

"At half time we said there are two ways this can go and we fronted up.

"I can’t fault the effort, especially from the front five, they had a tough day and really stuck to their guns.

"If I look at the positives, we came back and scored two tries to their one in the second half.

"Burton were a very good, strong and well-balanced team and they played some nice running rugby.

"Now we travel to Camp Hill and we know how important it is to get back to winning form.”

Just seven minutes in, Burton found a gap in the Hereford defence to score an unconverted try.

The second try came when Hereford missed touch and Burton ran the ball back for one of their running backs to touch down in the corner.

Several attacking opportunities for Hereford came to nothing and Burton made full use of the slope to score three further tries, two of which were converted.

In the second half, the Wyesiders, now playing down the slope, looked far more dangerous and eliminated the number of unforced errors.

They finally got on the scoreboard when Perry Pudge beat a number of defenders to score a try.

A driving run from Gareth Jones then set up an opportunity for Josh Bell to drive over for another try.

James Stubbs converted both tries but Burton went on to score another try to seal the win.

Meanwhile, Bromyard will go into this Saturday's Midlands 3 West (South) derby with Ledbury confident they can cause an upset after narrowly losing 15-13 to Dunlop.

The county side are bottom of the division, but gave their sixth-placed opponents a run for their money.

Dunlop scored an early try to go 5-0 up before Bromyard hit back with a converted Pat Hill try and two penalties from Bobby Ralph,

The home side reduced the deficit to one point before a late penalty won them the game.

Ledbury, who are fifth, lost 15-10 to Alcester.

Greyhound are two points clear at the top of Midlands 5 West (North) after comfortably beating Stourport 45-21, while Ross maintained their excellent form in Gloucester 2 with a 31-0 at Broad Plain.
