A VALIANT Hereford came up short against Bromsgrove, losing 27-3.

The Wyesiders battled bravely against a much heavier pack and the Midlands 1 West match, but three tries in the last 10 minutes sealed the home side a bonus point.

"At half time, we came in seven points to three down and looked very comfortable," said Hereford head coach Sean Lynn.

"The boys need to learn the lesson, that when we come away from home and we get good possession we need to get points on the board.

"Credit to Bromsgrove they capitalised in the last 15 minutes and scored three very good tries and they played some good rugby.

"But there are still plenty of positives for us and the structure in the club is good and the youngsters are coming through.

"Matt Lawrence, 19, made a fine first team debut, with Lewis Turner and Matt Hill also having outstanding games.

"I think things are right at the club, things are on the up for us and we look forward to another top team in Burton at home.”

In wet greasy conditions Hereford started well, but all their attacking pressure did get on the scoreboard.

Bromsgrove though, on their first attack, came away to take the lead with a converted try.

Hereford did hold their own for the rest of the first half and managed to score just before the interval when James Stubbs was successful in landing a penalty goal.

The Wyesiders stayed in contention for the majority of the second half until Bromsgrove landed a penalty to open up a 10-3 lead with 10 minutes left.

The Hereford pack had put in a good shift, with Lawrence and Hill outstanding.

But eventually tiredness took its toll which Bromsgrove exploited to run in three tries earning themselves a try bonus.

Meanwhile, Ledbury are now just five points off top spot in Midlands 3 West (South) after beating Dunlop 15-8.

The match had to be rearranged after a Dunlop player sustained a neck injury during the initial match in November, resulting in the abandoned.

Ledbury were leading 20-12 at the time and they will be pleased they saw the game through in the second game.

They are at home this Saturday, with Alcester the visitors.

Bromyard, who did not play last weekend, go to Dunlop, while Greyhound make the short journey to Stourport in Midlands 5 West (North).
